admission Requirements

Due to limited space, applicants may be put on a waitlist. Movement from the waitlist to enrollment is determined by the availability of spots vacated by other applicants at any time during the school year. Criteria for waitlist prioritization include the date of application, siblings enrolled/accepted, and academic and behavioral standing. The school does not discriminate in enrollment on the basis of race, gender, religion, national origin, or income.

Early Childcare Center (ECC)

He may have just begun walking or she may have just articulated her first sentence or have begun to make block towers. They could already be running! ILM Academy’s Early Childcare Center (ECC) will nurture them through these first steps. The ECC will help them to love learning, in a playful, deen-centered environment, where ‘A is for Allah’ is sung alongside ‘The Itsy Bitsy Spider’. Acceptance for the ECC program is determined by the application process on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Admissions to the ECC infant program requires the child to be 12 months by the first day of school and able to walk on their own. While admissions to the ECC toddler program requires the child to be 19 months by the first day of school and able to walk on their own.

Montessori

Three-year-olds are not to be underestimated. They walk, run, and talk, but they can also count by 100s, accurately determine the weather outside, and recite the Holy Quran. They can understand the concepts of honesty, compassion, and every other characteristic ILM Academy aims to instill in its students. And what about our four-year-olds? Do you know everything they can do and how they may be different from their five-year-old peers? This is our business at ILM Academy. We specialize in understanding children and bringing out the very best in each one of them at their diverse ages and stages.

Admissions to our Montessori program requires the child to be between the ages of 3 and 5 by September 30th, fully potty trained and an interview.

Elementary & Middle School

Our elementary and middle school core academic classes are taught by teachers with certifications and/or expertise in their respective fields. They have experience working with this age group and therefore understand the emotional and social dynamics of children at that age.

Admissions to the elementary and middle school require prior school records, teacher evaluation letters, placement test and an interview.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Every academic year begins in August (typically towards the middle/end of the month) and ends in May (typically the last week of the month). For the most part, we follow the public school calendar, but with some adjustments for Islamic holidays, such as Eid ul-Adha. Our calendar is developed after reviewing calendars for HISD, Spring Branch and other major school districts. Other holidays, based on public school calendars, include Labor Day, Thanksgiving break, winter break, spring break, and Memorial Day. The school year begins and ends on days close to, but not always exactly on the same days as, the public school calendar.

The school day begins at 8:10 am and ends at 3:10 pm. Students may arrive as early as 7:55 am and leave as late as 3:25 pm. These timings are subject to change, so please consult with the school administration.

Unless if your child will be attending the ECC, there is no option to send your child to school for only half a day. Students are required to attend the full day for the full classroom routine experience and to avoid missing out on the curriculum.

We did not offer after-school care in the 2015-2016 academic year. We are taking into consideration parent demand for the next 2016-2017 academic year. If you will be in need of after-school care for your child, please note it when you are completing your TADS admissions application when the question is asked. We have not and do not plan to offer before school care.

Our PTA (Parent Teacher Association) has contracted lunch deliveries for five days of the week with local restaurants. If you wish to purchase those lunches for your child, you may do so. These lunches are only available for purchase for Montessori and above grade level students, meaning that they are not available for ECC students.

For ECC and Montessori students, snacks are provided for the class, usually by parent volunteers. Elementary and middle school students must bring their own snacks.

If you’ll be applying for your child for the first time, we highly recommend you schedule a tour of our school to learn more in person by contacting us at info@ilmacademy.org (or fill out the form on the homepage). Personal tours are conducted on a scheduled basis.

Yes, we teach Arabic daily starting from the age of 12 months up through middle school.

Yes. These subjects are taught daily in ECC and Montessori and on alternating days in elementary and middle school.

We do not have a full hifdh program where students will memorize the entire Quran in the time they are here, however, our students do memorize Quran as a part of our Quran curriculum.

In elementary and middle school, we also teach English language arts, science, social studies, and math throughout the week. In grades 1-6 we also teach physical education for two periods, art for one period, and computers for one period per week. Middle school grade levels have a greater variety of non-core academic classes.

No, we do not have ESL classes. Students applying should understand and be able to speak English. We understand younger students coming into the school such as in our ECC and Montessori will take time to adapt to English as they may be speaking another language at home.

Yes, students from ECC up through elementary school go to recess on a daily basis. Students in middle school have recess once a week and have outdoor break time daily.

Priority Admissions for any academic year is applications submitted in the month of January. During this time, you will be able to apply for your child and receive benefits such as preferred admission status and paying a reduced application fee of $65.

It means that we give the children applying within the Priority Admissions period first batch preference over those applying after Priority Admissions. We will admit applicants who applied during Priority Admissions first and then post-Priority Admissions applicants later. Applying during the Priority Admissions period does not guarantee acceptance.

No, we cannot guarantee acceptance but the likelihood of acceptance if applying during Priority Admissions is increased in comparison to applying after Priority Admissions.

Yes, you may apply for your child anytime after Priority Admissions, but you will not receive preferred admission status and will have to pay an increased application fee of $125 per child.

No, we are not accepting applications prior to January of the year of the academic year. For example, we are not accepting applications prior to January 1, 2016, for the 2016-2017 academic year.

Time spent on the waiting list depends upon openings in our classes. If a current student withdraws, then we accept children from the waiting list for that same grade level. Preference on who is accepted next from our waiting list is based on several criteria, which are outlined above under the “Admission Requirements” section.

  • If your child will be 12-18 months old by August 2016 and walking, you will apply for the ECC-Infant.
  • If your child will be 19+ months old by August 2016 and walking, you will apply for ECC-Toddler.
  • If your child will be turning 3, 4, or 5 by September 30 of this year and is fully potty trained, you will apply for Montessori levels 1, 2, or 3, respectively. These levels are by age and correspond to pre-school, pre-K and kindergarten levels, respectively.
  • If your child will be turning ages 6-13 by September 30 of this year, you will apply for 1st-8th grades, respectively.
  • If your child is younger/older than the age that we accept for a grade level but has already completed that grade level, you should apply for the next grade level. For example, if your child is turning 6 by September 30 but has already completed 1st grade, you should apply for 2nd grade.

Generally speaking, we do accept applications until the end of February. Please bear in mind that there are several classes which are filled for this academic year and it is unlikely we will have space for your child to join those classes this year. Therefore, if you are applying for your child to join our ECC-Toddler class, Montessori (including pre-school, pre-K, and kindergarten), 1st grade, 2nd grade, or 5th grade, then your child will be added to the waiting list. We do not have waiting lists for this academic year for the ECC-Toddler, 3rd grade, 4th grade, or 6th-8th grades. If you are interested in applying for one of those grade levels, please follow the procedure located at the top of this page.

Next academic year, as we had this academic year, we will have the Early Childcare Center (for infants and toddlers), Montessori levels 1-3, elementary school (grades 1-5), and middle school (grades 6-8).

We do not offer a high school program.

Yes. The application you turned in before was for that specific academic year. We restart the application process and forming of waiting lists each academic year.

We typically send out a mailed letter in the month of March.
